integrity?

I'm interested to hear from others on their feelings regarding professional hindsight.  For me, having been in the architectural profession for over 15 years, i'm looking back wondering how little built work there really is to reference, but how arduous and painful it has been to actually see a single project through realization/ construction.  Seriously, raising a child has in a way been more productive...It's sad, but relevancy in a field which obligates people to invest often years at a time per project, is still difficult to rationalize and has given me surprisingly little feeling of achievement in retrospect.  I appreciate the thought of architecture, but still wonder to myself whether my creative efforts might have been better applied elsewhere which could have offered a more registerable or responsive level of meaning at the end of the day. I suppose one could argue, "would you rather build 50 mediocre projects, or 1 or 2 great projects"?  I have always personally felt the latter, but as one of my former bosses used to always tell me, "good architecture takes time"...and it's exactly this that has been difficult for me to reconcile in achievements.  I was recently contemplating the words: integrity, principle, scruples, truth; and am still trying to define reason in these values.

the end of the road

one of the most photogenic places on earth.
one of those places where so many beautiful things happen to align in circumstantial heaven.

Love everything about this object; the organic simplicity, the latent history, the elegant curves, the assertion of it's character..really great.

That's me on the 3'10" potato bomb thruster with sunglasses and turtleneck vest loving life on the second wave of the set behind my son and just ahead of a frisky dolphin. :D

Biodiversity?

Biodiversity:

Could biodiversity be thought of as the encouragement/engagement of different individuals into dialogue or experiences that may not have been foreseen or predicted? The mind being considered as an infinite landscape or malleable environment for experimentation.
Peoples thoughts as the diverse matter of influence and their interactions as the potential catalyst for growth.

Strange Fruit

I heard an interesting and true statement this morning:
"an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind".
When the mist of the morning clears we're left clutching the palm of the person next to us. And although it may feel as though human hearts have hardened, we go on despite this adversity believing that the confirmation of our beliefs will someday prevail and that we will live in better times.

The value of a life

There are things that happen that send undeniable messages outwards. Psychological vibrations that somehow add to a foreboding imbalance. Despite whatever evidence found or testimony given, we as a judicial and punitive society may never fully know the truth; which makes me really ponder the worth of a fellow man's life. I think we are all connected somehow (emotionally, spiritually, phenomenologically), more so than we like to believe sometimes. And right now, I'm hearing an unsettling humming sound in the back of my mind that something is about to go off course.

asym up, but no waves..

sorry if this is like the 50th photo of this board i've posted, but after today it'll never be in this pristine condition ever again and i wanted to document it before it starts its gradual descent.  not much out there this morning to warrant this, but getting really curious for the next swell.

Through the plumeria trees

Bad way to start the morning...

Dawnpatrol was detoured radically because of yet another fatal accident in the early morning hours on PCH involving another Ferrari going way too fast for the electrical pole that essentially cut it in half. I shudder to think of the condition of the passengers, but the police told me they were going to need another hour to collect all of the pieces of the driver on the beach. Tragic and brutal, but this reposes the question in my mind over the value of things. The worth of one's life in the midst of uncertainty. And the often times selfish indulgence that overshadows our true ability to understand the simple fragility of our existence. Ultimately, what is the worth of half a Ferrari in the end?

This view this morning reminded me of a gabriele basilico photo. This photo not at all doing the aforementioned justice of course.
