I Remember

"let me tell you the ten commandments of being a raver":

1. Location, location, location.
2. Gain entry by any means necessary.

3. Fear nothing.

4.Send the word out to those who believe in it.

5. It's not where you're from, it's where you're going.

6. Reject the mainstream.
7. Find the best sound system.
8. Rule is ... never fail.
9. You have to make sure your music is bang-on, you can't start a revolution if your music isn't right boys.
10. It's your choice.

Mexico

I once saw scribbled on the wall of a public bathroom on Santa Monica
beach "go back to f_ _ _ing Mexico!".
Next to it, someone else profoundly replied "this IS f_ _ _ing Mexico
a _ _ hole".

sea of tranquility

the view i'd like to have someday from my living room.  somehow, this photo makes me want to all of a sudden take a very deep breath.
fransilvestrenavarro nailed it.

stubbie saturday_kamakura

i was cleaning out a folder on my HD and couldn't trash this one just yet.  some nice boards out there, the alternative board fetish really is a global market.  manny caro sporting the stubbie saturday_kamakura, japan.

g land

a view of the point at g land that i'd never seen before.  really illustrates just how long the wave is and how many sections there really are.  can you imagine connecting through this freight train?  i always love seeing the bathymetry bending lines of swell onto a point or headland.  really makes you aware of the edges of kinetic energy tearing away from a fluid message sent thousands of miles away and days/weeks prior.  sometimes i wish i were goofy-footed...sometimes.

being british

think i already posted this?...worth another though.

Painting

Painting has one foot in architecture and the other in dreams.

I speak of the city

News today and tomorrow a ruin, buried and resurrected every day,
lived together in streets, plazas, buses, taxis, movie houses,
theaters, bars, hotels, pigeon coops and catacombs, the enormous city
that fits in a room three yards square, and endless as a galaxy. the
city that dreams us all, that all of us build and unbuild and rebuild
as we dream. the city we all dream, that relentlessly changes while
we dream it, the city that wakes every hundred years and looks at
itself in the mirror of a word and doesn't recognize itself and goes
back to sleep. The city that sprouts from the eyelids of the woman
who sleeps at my side, and she is transformed, with its monuments and
statues, its histories and legends.
To go back- are we asleep or awake?-we are, we are nothing more, day
breaks, it's early, we are in the city, we cannot leave except to fall
into another city, different yet identical. I speak of the immense
city, that daily reality composed of two words: the others. I speak
of the forest of stone, the desert of the prophets, the ant-heap of
souls, the congregation of tribes, the house of mirrors, the labyrinth
of echoes, the delirium of symmetries. I speak of the city, shepherd
of centuries, mother that gives birth to us and devours us, that
creates us and forgets.

KDLAB

even though kdlab did this work years ago, still no one touches them in terms of atmospheric content. funny how this demo reel became (and still is) a staple go to example for most all digital design classes.  think about that...two kids from columbia gsapp's plot towards digital visualization domination.  good while they lasted. really good...looking forward to seeing the new tron.

a realidade das arboledas

the reality behind the proverbial architectural shot:
i was somewhat amazed upon visiting ronchamp years ago to find a foot worn trail circumnavigating the structure with built up viewing mounds at all of the key photographable angles.  you essentially wait in line to step up and snap the same shot that thousands of others before you had taken.  same exact spot, same angle, essentially standing in someone elses footprints.  these photos of las arboledas that russell and i found this afternoon exposed some of the truth behind something that had always appeared a placid temple in photos.  despite what barragan may have thought, the local children actually using the tanque to swim in and then getting busted by the man actually made it so much more priceless.
