aeroporto da madeira

the airport pitch on the island of madeira.
three cheers for contextualism, you can barely notice it!
no really, i don't think there's one flat spot on the island.
they should only allow sea planes to the island...or submarines.

Fun with Fins

Epic Topanga_25july09

first real south of the summer.
not huge, but perfect.
this is a sequence by the way grinding down the point.
it's good to see so much energy in the ocean again.

Speed dialers

At loooong last, the speed dialer fins are in! It was a long time
coming, but the board and fins are finally reunited.
It's a very strange thing but totally true that speed dialers will
actually hum at high speeds. I probably have them set incorrectly,
but I actually felt them slowing down when they reached a certain
velocity. Weird. Not sure what to make of that. Today I've already
popped out one of the boxes. Sucks.

the western mockingbird

the western mockingbird.

quite possibly the most annoying animal on this small planet.
indigenous to the west and south western united states, the mockingbird takes full advantage of the quiet of the earliest morning hours (+/- 2a.m.) to share its plethora of ear shattering tunes with unsuspecting (read: unwilling) listeners as they are fast asleep. they are characterized by their ambitious tenacity and indignant response when showered with a hot bucket of water.

once upon a time...

bust out your lighters

here's a blast from the early 90's!

6'6" roundpin

6'6" x 18 1/2" x 2 1/2"
kind of a hybrid of a black beauty template, but with more thickness up front and tapered out through the rear. no trips to g-land planned anytime soon, and i haven't needed anything more than a sensible 6'5" around here for the past 4 years, so i figured i'd downsize from 6'9" for practicality sake. the cowabunga from downunda will probably hit this weekend though...
